Aït Baamrane Euphorbia Honey
Opening this jar of euphorbia honey, known as daghmous, is to join us in the arid lands of Aït Baamrane, in southern Morocco, where thorny euphorbia cling to the slopes and our bees work in a landscape of stone, light, and wind.
Origin
The Aït Baamrane region, in the province of Sidi Ifni, in the heart of Guelmim-Oued Noun and Souss-Massa, is recognized as one of the iconic terroirs for daghmous honey.
This rare honey is primarily derived from the foraging of resin spurge (euphorbia) flowers, a thorny and particularly resilient plant that grows naturally in the arid and mountainous areas of southern Morocco.
The hives are set up in the heart of this wild daghmous vegetation, in a preserved environment, allowing the bees to forage mainly on euphorbia flowers. The honey is then harvested using traditional beekeeping expertise specific to this region.
Our colonies consist of Sahrawi yellow bees, native, hardy, and resilient bees perfectly adapted to the difficult conditions of Saharan and pre-Saharan zones. They evolve in an environment where heat, drought, and terrain deeply shape the character of this honey.
Color & taste
Our daghmous honey is distinguished by its amber color, sometimes deep, which reflects the richness and strength of its terroir. Its texture is creamy and can crystallize quickly, a characteristic naturally found in some euphorbia honeys.
On the palate, it is a honey with character: intensely sweet, with a slightly piquant sensation and a pungent or spicy note that develops gradually during tasting.
Powerful, slightly bitter, and woody, it possesses a singular personality. A honey that does not seek to be conventional, but which intensely tells the story of the harshness of the plants and landscapes that gave it life.
